SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION FOR MEN · DENSITY
Keep your hair. See less scalp.
Scalp micropigmentation for thinning hair places small pigment impressions between existing hairs. This hair tattoo can reduce visible scalp contrast and create the appearance of fuller hair.

Small pigment impressions can soften the contrast where scalp shows through. Your hair supplies the length, texture and movement. SMP does not grow hair or stop hair loss.

The swirl can reveal scalp as your hair separates. We assess the existing coverage and how pigment could blend with the hair around it.
Existing hair around the area matters.
Diffuse thinning can leave hair across the top while making the spaces between it more visible. Your usual length and styling help shape the plan.
Bring the haircut you want to keep.
Density work may reduce visible scalp where suitable hair remains. Pigment cannot create the length of hair in a bare temple or a receded area.
Your remaining coverage shapes the approach.A bald area and a thinning area need different plans.

This client had density SMP across the full top of his head over three sessions. The photograph shows his short retained hair. Select it for a closer look.

The composite shows the crown before treatment and a front view afterward. The angles differ. It records this client’s short retained hair and density work; an individual assessment establishes what your hair can support.

There needs to be sufficient existing density for this approach. Your hair supplies coverage, length and movement. Pigment changes the colour contrast beneath it.
We assess your baseline hair coverage and the contrast between your hair and skin. That relationship affects how much density SMP can change the appearance.
A bare area cannot gain the texture of longer hair from pigment.
Show us the haircut and styling you live with. Longer hair and a close shaven style create different appearances over pigment.
Hair can separate when wet or styled differently. An assessment needs to consider the scalp you see in everyday conditions. A photograph with hair fibres or concealer can hide part of that starting point.
Bring clear views of your hair without cover products.
More darkness can make scalp contrast less obvious beneath longer hair. It can also become too prominent if you later shave your head.
Our approach considers your existing hair, skin tone and possible future haircuts when planning pigment. We aim for a balanced appearance across those situations. SMP does not stop further hair loss.
The goal is a considered result, rather than maximum darkness.
YOUR STARTING POINT MATTERS
The hair you have and the look you want need to work together.
Select a topic to explore.

Density SMP relies on retained hair for coverage. A bare area cannot gain the length or texture of hair from pigment.

Your baseline coverage and the contrast between your hair and skin affect the appearance pigment can create.

SMP does not stop hair loss. Changes in your remaining hair can leave more of the treated scalp visible.

Pigment made darker for longer hair can become too prominent if you later shave. Future haircut choices are part of the plan.

UNDERSTAND THE TREATMENT
What pigment can change. What your hair still needs to do.
Hair tattoo is another name for scalp micropigmentation. Density SMP uses that technique to reduce visible scalp contrast beneath suitable existing hair. It creates an appearance of fullness without adding hair or changing its growth.
Density SMP can work with retained hair. There is no single haircut that establishes suitability for everyone. Your remaining coverage, usual length and preferred style need to be assessed together. Pigment will not provide the length or texture of hair.
A patch with little or no hair has a different limit from thinning hair spread across the scalp. Pigment changes the skin’s appearance, while longer surrounding hair has physical texture and movement. That difference can remain visible. Compare the density and close shaven approaches for men before choosing.
The amount of scalp you see can change with lighting and with how hair separates. Density SMP cannot create the coverage of additional hair. Look at the lighting and hairstyle in original case photographs. Ask which treatment stage they show.
Further hair loss can expose more of the treated scalp. SMP does not prevent that loss. Discuss how a change in coverage or haircut could affect the appearance and your future plan. New hair loss or a scalp condition may also need assessment by a clinician.
Pigment needs to work with your hair and skin tone. Going darker to hide more scalp under longer hair can leave too strong an appearance if you later shave it. At SCALPS, possible future haircuts are part of the plan. Maximum darkness is not the goal.
Your treatment plan sets the expected sessions for the area and appearance being assessed. Work is built in stages so the settled pigment can be reviewed before further coverage is added. Ask what the complete plan includes and which photograph shows the finished stage.
Pigment can fade or change in appearance over time. Sun exposure can contribute to changes. Your hair can change too, so maintenance should consider both. Follow the SCALPS aftercare and long term care guide and discuss a review when the appearance needs attention.
The current SCALPS guide keeps washing and heavy sweating off the schedule for the first five days. After day five, washing and light exercise resume according to the guide. Swimming and saunas wait 30 days. Your specific treatment instructions take priority; read the full aftercare timeline before planning your routine.
Comfort varies. Ask about the precautions, pigment and aftercare used for your treatment. Tattoo procedures carry risks, including infection and reactions to pigment, as well as an unwanted appearance. Discuss scalp concerns and allergies during assessment. SMP is a cosmetic procedure.
The published density rate is $1,200 per session. A typical three session plan totals $3,600. Your assessed area and expected sessions determine your estimate; additional sessions may be needed. Confirm what is included and how later maintenance is priced. See the current SCALPS SMP pricing for the complete structure.
