Is Scalp Micropigmentation Painful?

No, most clients experience no pain or mild discomfort. The average client has expressed the pain level to be 3-4 out of 10.

Does Scalp Micropigmentation Look Real?

Pigment that is placed in the dermis are 90 to 150 micrometers in diameter. This might seem a bit larger than real human hair, but when viewed from six inches or further away, the size is indistinguishable from real hair follicles. Often, even close family members standing one foot away (0.3 meters), cannot tell where your real hair ends and the SMP begins.

Is Scalp Micropigmentation The Same As A Tattoo?

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is also known as a Hair Tattoo and has a similar process to that of a tattoo but with some key differences. The needles, machines, and pigments we use are designed specifically for Scalp Micropigmentation. Traditional tattoos are placed 5 plus layers into the skin whereas our Scalp Micropigmentation procedure is placed 2 layers into the skin allowing the pigment to hold its follicle-like shape.

What Is The Cost Of A Scalp Micropigmentation Procedure?

Prices are quoted on a case-by-case basis, however, you can expect to pay between $2000-$5000 USD. Prices are based on experience, the current stage of hair loss, and the treatment time required. The more follicle replications needed, the higher the cost. Keep in mind, we understand that some competitors may offer SMP for a little less, but our prices reflect our expertise and many years of experience in the art of SMP. Treatments typically include 2-3 sessions. The average Scalp Micropigmentation session is likely to last between 2-4 hours depending on your treatment needs. The first 30 minutes will be used to discuss style needs, color selection, and hairline positioning. The remaining time is used to perform the procedure and issue after-care guidelines.

Are SMP Needles Different Than Tattoo Needles?

Our micro needles are 80% smaller than standard tattoo needles and we can adjust needle size based on your particular follicle size, shape, and pattern. This is to ensure we provide an undetectable look that replicates your natural hair follicles almost flawlessly. We use one of the smallest and the most advanced needles in the industry and combined with our experience, we are able to create the most natural hair follicle replications out of any competitor in the business.

Does My Hair Color Matter With SMP?

We are experienced professionals at matching colors, skin tones, and follicles. We use specialized ink that is divided into 10 different blends on multiple levels, allowing us to mix and match them correctly to create any color or shade. Our experience allows us to not only match the color of your follicle but also to match the size and shape, giving you the most realistic hairline possible.

What Conditions Can Scalp Micropigmentation Treat?

SMP can treat the following conditions:
• Alopecia
• Male pattern baldness
• Receding hairlines
• Thinning hair
• Crown hair loss
• Head trauma. Surgical scars or scarring from burns, accident/injury, or medical condition
• Damaged scalps due to weave and extensions

How Long Is The Healing Process After SMP?

Usually, your pigment should be fully settled within 1-2 weeks after your procedure. We provide post-care guidelines that should be followed for the first week and after that, all we ask is that you protect your scalp with high-SPF Sunblock when planning to be in direct sun. With that said, you should be able to go to work or out to dinner immediately following your procedure.

Do You Offer A Satisfaction Guarantee?

At SCALPS, we expect our work to exceed our client’s expectations, and it’s one of the biggest reasons we provide as many sessions as needed to ensure a beautiful result. We have 5-star reviews across numerous platforms. We have never had one unsatisfied client….yes that’s correct, not even one.

How Do You Achieve A Realistic Look?

Scalp micropigmentation treatment is meant to replicate as closely as possible a full head of shaven hair. Our ‘textured effect’ or ‘layering’ is what separates us from other practitioners.

How Long Do I Have To Wait To Buzz My Hair After My Hair Tattoo Procedure?

We recommend waiting at least a week after your session to buzz your hair because your scalp is in the healing process and you would not want to interfere with your body’s natural healing process.

What Is The Scalp Micropigmentation Aftercare Procedures

The first 5 days following your treatment are the most restrictive. You will be required to keep all forms of moisture away from the treatment area and refrain from exercise. Read our Scalp micropigmentation aftercare instructions here.

What Is The Difference Between Choosing A Tattoo Artist Or A Certified SMP Artist?

Although it may be referred to as a hair tattoo, our inks do not change color after applying like a regular tattoo does. Our needles are inserted into the epidermis portion of the skin, lightly tipping the dermis, which is more controlled and prevents ink from spreading. We also use single-use hand-crafted micro needles which are 80% smaller than the needles that are commercially sold. Our machines and needles have been specifically designed for SMP. Finally, our technique is much different than a regular tattoo on the body – they go much deeper and shade color into your skin, while we are trained with a much lighter touch to create follicle replications in the scalp specifically. Although it may seem like a head tattoo, you should only allow Certified, trained, and experienced SMP technicians to perform this type of procedure.

Will People Notice That I Have A Tattoo On My Head

The look we provide is unbelievably authentic and realistic. Unless you tell them, people will have no clue. Not one client we have treated has been noticed. It actually makes you look much younger with a more natural hairline. Check out our photo gallery. The most common responses are “You should shave your head like that more often” or “You look a lot younger, what did you do?” But they can never pinpoint what you did exactly. The only time anyone will be able to notice you had something done is if you go to an artist who has not been properly trained or doesn’t have enough experience. With all 5-star reviews, that will never happen here at SCALPS!

Am I Able To See The Previous Work Of The Person Doing My Procedure?

Yes, please ask to see the artist’s portfolio of work. We’d be happy to show you our portfolio of images and videos from years of completed work. Most of our procedures in New Jersey are done by Alex, who is the Founder of SCALPS and is one of the most trusted SMP artists in the world. We do not take this lightly and would not allow anyone without the proper experience or training to work with our clients. Follow Our Social Media Pages for more information

Does Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) Turn Blue Or Green?

The short answer is NO since the carbon-based pigment that we use does not change colors, but the final results of your procedure can look blue or green for a few different reasons. The main reason for an SMP procedure looking blueish or greenish is simply the inexperience of an artist. The 2 main reasons for this happening are if the pigment gets deposited too deeply in the skin, or the color chosen for your procedure is too dark for your skin color, the results can come out looking like a blueish or greenish tone.

Do You Reuse Needles?

We NEVER reuse our needles. All our needles are single-use needles and we go through several new needles for every session.

Will I Need To Buzz Or Razor Shave My Head After My Treatment Is Complete?

The most popular length suggestion is a 00 guard which is done with a T-Liner but we do often have clients who prefer to razor-shave or foil-shave their scalp. We don’t suggest razor shaving as this will speed up the rate at which you would need to get touch-ups and will also affect the realistic look of the SMP blending into your natural hair.

Do I Need To Shave My Head Before The Procedure?

After viewing images of your scalp we will suggest the length your hair should be cut before the procedure. Most men will need to shave their heads down to a 0 before their procedure.

What If My Scalp Is Dry?

If the artist notices your scalp is dry they will recommend a moisturizing regime, which will take place one week after your procedure. Be sure to read our pre-care and post-care instructions on how to properly care for your scalp before and after your procedure.
